GREEN LOG Home Awards™ Judges

We are very proud to announce the judging panel for the 2009 GREEN LOG Homes & Lifestyle Awards™. These dedicated individuals are committed to the concepts surrounding green building, and have set aside time to review nominees and evaluate them based on the criteria set by Green Log Awards Inc. Matt Franklin, Mountain ArchitectsMatt is an AIA Member with over 15 years experience in the architectural and construction industries. Matt has been designing Mountain Architects’ custom residential homes for eight years. Mountain Architects Inc. is a member of the US Green Building Council & a participant in the LEED® for Homes Pilot Demonstration Program.

Charles Befier, Building Systems Building Systems Magazine is a United States-based trade magazine read by builders, developers and general contractors using or considering using innovative construction technologies, including green-building practices and products. Using these systems, builders are able to offer their buyers quicker completion times, precision design and engineering, and the highest quality construction in controlled environments.

Rate It Green, an online community for everyone interested in green building. The site features a directory and a user-driven ratings system where members ask questions and share their green building experiences. A key goal is to increase the amount of available green building information and to help those newer to particular products or services make confident decisions. Rate It Green also publishes Green Building 101, a directory of over 900 green building resources.

I think it’s significant that the awards have a user-based component, just as we have on Rate It Green. People who have experience with products and services are super judges of quality and are often best able to help others know what it is like to work with these organizations.”

Mike McCarthyMichael McCarthy is the editorial director at Active Interest Media/Home Buyer Publications, which publishes Log Home Living, Country’s Best Log Homes and Timber Home Living.

Michael’s work has been published in a number of national publications, including the Washington Post. His commentary about architecture has been covered by the Los Angeles Times, Denver Post, Philadelphia Inquirer and Wall Street Journal, among other publications. He has also appeared on CNN’s “Open House.”

Barbara Kessler, GreenRightNow.comBarbara Kessler, editor of GreenRightNow, has worked in newsrooms in the Midwest and South since graduating from Northwestern University in Chicago. She wrote for The Dallas Morning News for 13 years, covering breaking news, social welfare and suburban land development issues.

As editor of GreenRightNow, which is syndicated on the websites of more than 50 television stations around the U.S., she assigns and edits stories on green commerical and residential building. The website has featured stories on green roofs, green schools, LEED certified hotels and condos; rain barrels, solar tubes, masonry heaters and other ways to green your own home. The website is owned by Noofangle Media Inc., based in Addison, Texas.


Jim Young, President, PrecisionCraft Log Homes

Jim Young, PrecisionCraftJim Young is the President of PrecisionCraft Log & Timber Homes. Jim has been in the log home building industry for over 20 years. Jim is also the incoming president of the Log Homes Council, a division of the National Association of Home Builders.
