Home Furnishings-2009
Incorporating green elements into your home atmosphere does not have to end when construction is complete. Here are some companies who can help.
O Ecotextiles - (environmentally-safe fabric & textiles)
The O Ecotextiles collection is at the forefront of what’s possible today in terms of producing fabrics which are beautiful and sustainable. The O Ecotextiles collection was designed to be used in the residential market, so we concentrated on fabrics that were wonderful to live with. The fabrics also had to feel good, while withstanding kids and dogs. The result is a collection of fabrics that feel really good and withstand abuse – and most importantly, will not harm you or your kids either directly through use in our homes or indirectly through production processes that don’t spew toxic chemicals into our groundwater, the air, or into the landfill in the form of sludge.

Joinery - (sustainable furniture)
All the furniture that we hand craft at The Joinery is made out of sustainable solid hard woods with traditional woodworking techniques. The Joinery has been focused on sustainability since our inception, both in our building process and through our business practices. Over 75% of our furniture is built out of FSC certified wood. Over 10% of our furniture produced is built with wood that was harvested within a 500 mile radius. What sets our pieces apart from many other furniture manufacturers is how we are able to combine old world construction techniques with modern design and lifetime warranties.

11th Hour - (sustainable furniture & sculpture)
11th hour uses 100% reclaimed local or FSC certified lumber to create furniture and sculpture. We believe that “green” should be affordable, not overpriced. Every product is custom-made, as not to waste materials. Our finishes are also people- and planet-friendly. Pieces can be made to suit any room of a home, office, or garden. We can also “green” items that customers already have, or utilize objects of interest in a new way.

Global Surroundings - (reclaimed wood furniture)
We buy old homes in Java, Indonesia that are roughly 90-100 years old and use the old, reclaimed teak wood to produce home building products and furniture. The Indonesian families then get a new brick home, once only a dream. We buy and dismantle their house, re-using every part to create our furniture. We will use the front door of an old home and add that into an armoire. Old floor boards are used in constructing beautiful dining tables. We are constantly seeking new ways to use the existing materials instead of cutting down trees in the rainforest.

Peter Danko Design - (sustainable furniture)
My use of materials and its structure enables: an ultra low carbon footprint, hyper optimization of resources with zero loss of strength, an ability to rapidly disassemble to recycle, and an ethereal aesthetic that is clean and versatile. This is a design that makes sense today and would still make sense 5000 years from now. These chairs are comfortable because the plastic flexes and contours to the body. The natural polypropylene seat and back is easy to clean. The optional covers for the seat and back are easily removable for cleaning and matching in any decor.
