And, I think there’s a great deal of recognition out there that this is an important topic. So, people are getting on board, and I think that’s a great thing.”

Green Log Home & Lifestyle Awards Logo

Today’s news headlines are rife with warnings of environmental meltdown, spelling out the dire consequences of failing to reduce, if not reverse, the carbon footprint of our daily lives.

So a non-profit organization known as the Green Log Awards, together with the Environment News Service, have set out to turn the headlines and the outcome around.

To provide both information and inspiration for building a healthier home environment, the inaugural GREEN LOG Home and Lifestyle Awards have been founded as a “bottom up” social media initiative to engage Internet users and connect individual home owners with the products, services, and websites that are “Building a Greener World One Home at a Time.”

From home energy systems to home furnishings, green building processes and materials to landscaping, and from the best blogs to get helpful tips on healthier living to the best podcasts and television shows, the 2008 GREEN LOG Home & Lifestyle Awards are awarding the Green Log emblem to nominees, finalists and winners.

Voting for the Finalists of the 2008 GREEN LOG Home and Lifestyle Awards will be open to the public beginning in April at polling places on blogs and Websites around the Web. A voting widget makes it possible. The public will be able to choose from among dozens of outstanding eco-sustainable solutions and learn more about the companies who make them.

Green Log Awards co-founder Jim Young, who is also the president of PrecisionCraft Log Homes, is about as organic a builder as it gets.  “Log Homes are actually the most natural, organic and environmentally sustainable dwellings in the history of homebuilding,” said Young, who is also the incoming president of the Log Homes Council for the National Association of Home Builders.” So we appreciate that how a home is made and what goes into maintaining a green home and a green lifestyle are paramount.”

According to Tim Schafer, Lead Architect at co-founder, Mountain Architects, “Every green building project begins with thoughtful design and planning. In fact, the majority of the work and attention to green building occurs in the design of the home.” With the right design in place, the next step is to ensure the home is built and finished with green, environmentally friendly products and systems.”
The Environment News Service, a global news bureau and wire service reporting on all aspects of the environment, is lending its expertise in judging and advisory services in the selection and awards process. ENS is at <http://www.ens-newswire.com/>.

Creating the Green Log Home & Lifestyle Awards

Monday, March 17th, 2008

The GREEN LOG Home & Lifestyle Awards™ were created in response to the growing demand for green products, solutions, and services. The goal of the awards program is to locate and shine a spotlight on those companies and individuals who are enabling healthier homes and lifestyles.

The GREEN LOG Home & Lifestyle Awards™ were founded by the non-profit organization, Green Log Awards, Inc., in cooperation with the Environment News Service (ENS).

Green Log Awards, Inc. was founded and created by PrecisionCraft Log Homes and Mountain Architects, two names that stand for innovation and excellence in environmentally sound home building and green living.

With a focus on green design, Mountain Architects is a perfect fit for the GREEN LOG Home & Lifestyle Awards™ program. As the leading design company in the log home & timber home industry, Mountain Architects also sets the pace in green design incorporating green design elements into every design. Many of Mountain Architects clients look to simply incorporate energy saving features into the design of their log homes or timber homes, while other clients look to achieve LEED® certification. Whatever their “shade of green”, the team at Mountain Architects help clients meet their green building goals.

What role might a log home company place in the GREEN LOG Home & Lifestyle Awards™? The interest and active participation in such a program is a logical one for PrecisionCraft. Log homes represent the original green building material and have one of the lowest carbon footprints of any other building material. In addition, the log home industry is actively promoting the green building movement. According to Jim Young, President of PrecisionCraft, “the Log Homes Council and the National Association of Home Builders are very concerned with green building. NAHB has recently published green building guidelines which apply to log homes and other construction options. In addition, the NAHB is providing a seminar to train members of the Log Homes Council at the up coming President’s Tour.”

Clients who have the goal of having a “green” home turn to PrecisionCraft and the team at Mountain Architects for information on companies that provide green products and services. It is their goal to provide clients with the best green solutions available. The creation of Green Log Awards, Inc. is a great way to raise awareness about the green movement as well as identify & highlight those companies or organizations that provide the best green solutions and information, not just for the log & timber home industry but for the building industry as a whole.
