2009 Winners Announced!

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

We are excited to announce the winners of the 2009 GREEN LOG Home Awards!  This year has seen a dramatic increase in the public’s desire to find green building solutions for their homes.  We are proud that our contest is able to highlight some of the best solutions in the world.  From water conservation to your kitchen countertops, there are hundreds of ways make your home healthier, more efficient and sustainable.

This year we had 14 categories and over 60 nominees.  The judges found many categories filled with worthy candidates. Determining their overall winner was often difficult.  This is a testament to the quality of nominees we had in 2009.  There can be, however, just one winner in each category. View the winners now! See what the judges had to say.

After you have reviewed the Winners, check out the recipients of the 2009 People’s Choice Awards.  These are the results of how you voted.  Did your favorite green building product or service win?

We at the GREEN LOG Awards would like to thank our sponsors, judges, nominees and all of the people who took the time to review our nominees and vote!  Here’s hoping next year is even more successful than 2009!

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Earth Day brought with it an almost 30% spike in daily votes cast!  As we push to break last year’s voting record, we were happy to see that Earth Day sparked more people to vote in the 2009 GREEN LOG Awards.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank this year’s sponsors and judges.  Chase has once again agreed to be our GREEN WORLD level sponsor.  Their continued support is very much appreciated. We are also very lucky this year to have such a great group of judges from a wide spectrum of the green building world.

As public voting continues, our dedicated judges are busy evaluating this year’s nominees.  2009 judges include: Jim Young, President of program founder, PrecisoinCraft Log Homes; Matt Franklin, Lead Designer, Mountain Architects Inc.; Charles Bevier, Editor, Building Systems Magazine; Allison Friedman, Editor, RateItGreen.com; Donna Peak, Editor, Country’s Best Log Homes Magazine; Barbara Kessler, Editor, GreenRightNow.com. Green Log Home & Lifestyle Awards Logo

Today’s news headlines are rife with warnings of environmental meltdown, spelling out the dire consequences of failing to reduce, if not reverse, the carbon footprint of our daily lives.

So a non-profit organization known as the Green Log Awards, together with the Environment News Service, have set out to turn the headlines and the outcome around.

To provide both information and inspiration for building a healthier home environment, the inaugural GREEN LOG Home and Lifestyle Awards have been founded as a “bottom up” social media initiative to engage Internet users and connect individual home owners with the products, services, and websites that are “Building a Greener World One Home at a Time.”

From home energy systems to home furnishings, green building processes and materials to landscaping, and from the best blogs to get helpful tips on healthier living to the best podcasts and television shows, the 2008 GREEN LOG Home & Lifestyle Awards are awarding the Green Log emblem to nominees, finalists and winners.

Voting for the Finalists of the 2008 GREEN LOG Home and Lifestyle Awards will be open to the public beginning in April at polling places on blogs and Websites around the Web. A voting widget makes it possible. The public will be able to choose from among dozens of outstanding eco-sustainable solutions and learn more about the companies who make them.

Green Log Awards co-founder Jim Young, who is also the president of PrecisionCraft Log Homes, is about as organic a builder as it gets.  “Log Homes are actually the most natural, organic and environmentally sustainable dwellings in the history of homebuilding,” said Young, who is also the incoming president of the Log Homes Council for the National Association of Home Builders.” So we appreciate that how a home is made and what goes into maintaining a green home and a green lifestyle are paramount.”

According to Tim Schafer, Lead Architect at co-founder, Mountain Architects, “Every green building project begins with thoughtful design and planning. In fact, the majority of the work and attention to green building occurs in the design of the home.” With the right design in place, the next step is to ensure the home is built and finished with green, environmentally friendly products and systems.”
The Environment News Service, a global news bureau and wire service reporting on all aspects of the environment, is lending its expertise in judging and advisory services in the selection and awards process. ENS is at <http://www.ens-newswire.com/>.

Behind every great initiative, there are a host of great sponsors.  For Green Log Awards, the sponsors are champions for the best in environmentally sustainable green products, green solutions and green knowledge from the worlds of publishing, media and entertainment.
